Johnny Depp is Hollywood’s most famous actor. He’s not just an A-lister, but also one of Hollywood’s most successful and well-paid actors.

With that in mind, it’s safe to say Johnny Depp is worth a fortune. Is he still as wealthy as he was previously, despite his claimed extravagant spending habits and a protracted legal fight with his former wife, Amber Heard?

    Johnny Depp’s Career Ascends

The controversial actor began joining bands at the age of 12 and left out of high school to pursue his dream of becoming a rock singer. However, on the suggestion of Nicolas Cage, he pursued acting and began to build a reputation for himself in the 1980s with the TV series 21 Jump Street.

In 1990, he boosted his career by playing the renowned Edward Scissorhands in Tim Burton‘s film of the same name. After critical and economic success, his place as a top Hollywood actor was cemented, and he began a fruitful actor-director collaboration with Burton.

Throughout the 1990s, he worked on a number of movies, including Benny and Joon, Don Juan DeMarco, Donnie Brasco, Sleepy Hollow, and others. When he began playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise in 2003, he received great praise, and he went on to repeat his role in four more films.

The films Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Alice in Wonderland, and Dark Shadows were all made as a consequence of his ongoing collaboration with Burton. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Murder on the Orient Express, and Richard Says Goodbye are among his other successful films.

Johnny Depp’s Notable Earnings and Salaries

Johnny Depp may have barely begun when he starred in 21 Jump Street, but he was already earning $45,000 per episode at the time. In the mid-1990s, he began to command large paychecks, earning $5 million for Nick of Time and another $5 million for Donnie Brasco.

His basic compensation for the first Pirates of the Caribbean film was $10 million, while the second film’s base salary was $20 million. For backend points, he racked up an additional $40 million. He received a total of $55 million for the third film.

He decided to take a low base income and high backend points for Alice in Wonderland, yet he still received $55 million when the picture grossed $1 billion.

The Tourist gave him $20 million, whereas Rum Diary was $15 million, Rango was $7.5 million, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory gave him $18 million.

Despite being cut from the third Fantastic Beasts picture due to his Amber Heard lawsuit, he still received $16 million. Warner Bros. had to pay him “regardless of any circumstances,” according to his contract.

Johnny Depp’s alleged extravagant spending habits and the cost of his divorce

In 2012, news of Johnny Depp‘s financial woes surfaced. Jake Bloom, his lawyer, and Joel Mandel, his accountant, advised the 58-year-old actor at the time that he couldn’t afford his $2 million-per-month lifestyle.

They said that the actor lacked sufficient liquid assets to meet the costs, so he agreed to sell his boat for quick cash. In 2016, he dismissed Mandel and his manager, Tracy Jacobs, and launched a fraud and mismanagement case against the former’s agency, TMG.

“Deep was liable for his own money squandering,” TMG claimed in response to the case.

Aside from his lavish lifestyle, his breakup with Amber Heard also had a toll on his money account. According to Suggest, they had a $7 million settlement and $50,000 spousal support every month in 2016.

In 2019, Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million. Amber Heard retaliated with a defamation countersuit worth $100 million. He was also sentenced to pay $840,000 in legal expenses to The Sun.

Despite all of this, Johnny Depp‘s net worth is still $150 million.
