The fourth entry in the popular action franchise, which stars Keanu Reeves again in the title role, debuted to a franchise-best start in North America and more than $137 million worldwide.

Action picture After receiving excellent reviews and an A CinemaScore from viewers, John Wick: Chapter 4 ripped up the weekend box office with a massive $73.5 million domestic debut from 3,855 cinemas. It had a record-breaking global start of $137.5 million from 71 markets, setting a series high on all fronts.
The fourth entry in the popular Lionsgate action franchise comfortably outperformed the $56.8 million North American debut of 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum. It also represents one of the finest openings for Lionsgate in 2023 thus far and their biggest domestic debut of the epidemic period.
Furthermore, according to Lionsgate, it joins a limited group of movies that have achieved a franchise record in just nine of their previous 40 films or in its fourth appearance.
Every market where the film debuted at No. 1 internationally. With $6.7 million, the U.K. took the lead, surpassing John Wick 3 by 56%.

According to PostTrak, approximately 70% of ticket buyers for John Wick 4 were men, while over 55% of the crowd was made up of people between the ages of 18 and 34. Also, according to EntTelligence, the movie accounted for more than 60% of all foot traffic.
38 percent of the total revenue was supplied by Imax and high-end large format displays.
One difficulty is that John Wick 4 has fewer show times due to its lengthy two hours and 49-minute running duration.
The action franchise’s trademark mayhem, brutality, balletic athleticism, and grim comedy are all present in plenty in Chad Stahelski’s direction of the movie. Together with the late Lance Reddick, who passed away earlier this month, the cast also includes Bill Skarsgard, Laurence Fishburne, Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Ian McShane. The film was produced by Stahelski, Erica Lee, and Basil Iwanyk.
This weekend, the movie premieres abroad in 71 nations, including the UK, Germany, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, and Mexico.
Shazam! was easily defeated by Thunder Road Films/87eleven Entertainment’s John Wick 4! Now in its second weekend, Fury of the Gods.
Further negative news for the family-friendly superhero movie came from New Line and DC, whose Shazam 2 had a severe 68 percent drop to $9.7 million in its second weekend. Until Sunday, the movie’s domestic box office took in $46.3 million. It brought in $12.1 million from 77 international countries for a meager total of $56.1 million and $102.4 million worldwide.
Scream VI from Paramount and Spyglass came in at No. 3 with a sizable $8.4 million, finishing with a domestic total of $90.4 and a global total of $139.3 million.
MGM’s Creed III came in at No. 4 with a robust $8.36 million, finishing the week with a $140.9 million domestic haul. It has brought in more over $100 million internationally for MGM and collaborator Warner Bros. Jonathan Majors, who was detained on Saturday after being accused of assaulting a woman during a domestic argument, is a co-star in the movie, which is directed by Michael B. Jordan and features the return of Michael B. Jordan.
Ant-Man & the Wasp Quantumania came in second with $2.4 million, followed by 65, also from Sony, in the top five with a projected $3.4 million for a muted domestic cume of $27.9 million and $49 million internationally (Majors also stars in that film).
At the end of its sixth weekend, the domestic total for the Marvel and Disney film is a depressing $209.9 million.
