James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is documenting a Rick & Morty prank that has puzzled him for a week. Gunn has remained active in the superhero realm over the last few years, following his Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 with a time at DC. In August 2021, he launched his blockbuster The Suicide Squad in cinemas and on HBO Max, followed by the January 2022 premiere of the John Cena spinoff series Peacemaker. He’s now back at Marvel on-set, directing the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, which is now underway.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s plot is mostly kept under wraps, as the film is not scheduled to hit theaters until May 5, 2023, and production has just recently begun. However, it has been confirmed that Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaa will reprise her role as Gamora, Dave Bautista will make his return as Drax, Vin Diesel will reprise his role as Groot, Bradley Cooper will reprise his role as Rocket, Karen Gillan will reprise her role as Nebula, and Pom Klementieff will reprise her role as Mantis. Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Will Poulter as Adam Warlock will join them. Onset, some lighthearted hijinks have already occurred, like Karen Gillan slipping a doodle onto the shot list in order to demand an interesting monologue.
Gunn has been recording a bizarre event on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on Twitter this week. A keychain featuring the Rick & Morty character Squanchy appeared on his video feed stand one day. Clearly, he was unaware at the time, but when a keychain featuring Mr. Meeseeks appeared the next day, he snapped a photo and posted the strange incident on Twitter. Each subsequent day, numerous other characters, including Rick and Morty, were put to those keychains. Now, on day 7, a Pickle Rick has joined the others atop the cart. Gunn says in his newest tweet that he still has “no clue who is doing this,” but he does have “some suspicions.” Take a look at today’s post:
Gunn may have an inkling as to who is behind this prank, but he has yet to reveal his suspicions publicly. It’s most likely either a crew member who arrives sooner than him or a cast member who sneaks out anytime he’s working with another member of the ensemble. In any case, it’s someone with an absurd quantity of Ricky & Morty apparel. Gunn will undoubtedly continue capturing this prank until it reaches its conclusion. It definitely appears that the cast and crew of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are having a fun time on the set. This friendship, it is hoped, will be reflected in the final product, which will have the difficult task of sustaining the high standards that Gunn has set for himself with his past two entries. Gunn, on the other hand, has the tireless energy to pull this off. He’s managed to advertise Peacemaker, supervise the Guardians shoot, and capture this gigantic prank all at the same time, which is quite remarkable.
