In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Daniel Craig was apparently the initial candidate to play Mr. Fantastic.
The Illuminati, which included Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), Black Bolt (Anson Mount), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch), Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski), and Professor X (Patrick Stewart), made an appearance in Marvel Studios’ latest film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Krasinski, who played Reed Richards in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was a popular choice among fans for the role of the brightest man on Earth. However, it turns out that James Bond actor Daniel Craig was originally considered for the part.
Courtesy According to Justin Kroll, Senior Film Reporter for Deadline, Daniel Craig was originally cast as Mr. Fantastic during the filming of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Unfortunately, because of an increase in cases during the epidemic, he withdrew since he didn’t want to risk exposing his family in London:
It would have been a fascinating other reality if Daniel Craig had played Mr. Fantastic. For one thing, given that the actor recently retired from the James Bond franchise and is clearly looking to take a break from action franchises in favor of smaller-scale fare like the upcoming Knives Out sequel, some might speculate whether this would still lead to him portraying Reed Richards in the MCU’s first official Fantastic Four film.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently playing in theaters.
