House of the Dragon set a record for the most-watched series debut of 2022 and in the history of HBO.
House of the Dragon has been off to a strong start for HBO, bringing back the Game of Thornes franchise after the polarizing finale of the previous season. Sunday’s premiere garnered 9,9 million viewers across both HBO and HBO Max. In comparison, 17.9 million people watched the season eight premiere of Game of Thrones, whereas the first episode aired to 4.2 million in 2011.
With nearly 10 million views, the debut of House of the Dragon was the network’s most successful series launch to date.
House of the Dragon reportedly had the most viewership of any 2022 debut on streaming services or premium cable networks. 2.6 million homes watched the Game of Thrones prequel in its first six hours.
House of the Dragon airs new episodes every Sunday at 9 ET on both HBO and HBO Max.
