George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones, just revealed that HBO‘s planned prequel series House of the Dragon has completed production.
Martin stated on his blog, “Yes, all ten episodes. I have seen rough cuts of a few of them, and I’m loving them. Of course, a lot more work needs to be done. Special effects, color timing, score, all the post-production work.” He also said, “But the writing, the directing, the acting all look terrific. I hope you will like them as much as I do. My hat is off to Ryan and Miguel and their team, and to our amazing cast.”
Martin has been transparent with his audience regarding the development of the impending event. He earlier stated that he had seen early drafts of House of the Dragon and complimented the film’s production, script, and direction “I’ve seen a rough cut of the first episode. And loved it. It’s dark, it’s powerful, it’s visceral… just the way I like my epic fantasy.” He then went on to say, “[Executive producers] Ryan [J. Condal] and Miguel [Sapochnik] have done an amazing job, and the cast… just as with Game of Thrones, most viewers will only have heard of a few of the actors, but I think you are going to fall in love with a lot of them.”
Despite the current update, no release date for the series has been set. Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer of HBO and HBO Max, recently noted that the absence of a release date stems from the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic. The production of House of the Dragon is now complete, and conversations about a debut date have begun.
With House of the Dragon, spectators should expect a series that is very different from Game of Thrones. The new drama recounts the rise and demise of House Targaryen and their famous dragons 200 years before the War of the Five Kings. Miguel Sapochnik, the show’s co-showrunner, has previously stated, “House of the Dragon has its own tone that will evolve and emerge over the course of the show. But first, it’s very important to pay respects and homage to the original series, which was pretty groundbreaking.”
The release date for House of the Dragon has yet to be determined.
