With Apple TV+, Idris Elba is heading to the sky.
Hijack, a thriller set aboard a hijacked airliner, will star Elba and be executive produced by him. The limited series, which won a direct to series order from Apple TV+, is the first project to emerge from Elba‘s Green Door Pictures’ first-look arrangement with the tech giant, which was struck in 2020.
The series will be written by George Kay (Netflix’s Lupin) and directed by Jim Field Smith (Criminal, The Wrong Mans).
As a hijacked airliner begins its seven-hour journey into London and officials on the ground look for explanations, the story will be relayed in real-time. Sam Nelson, played by Idris Elba, is an experienced business negotiator who attempts to step up and use all of his cunning to save the passengers’ lives. His high-risk plan, on the other hand, may be his undoing.
The series is produced by Green Door in collaboration with 60Forty Films and Kay and Smith’s Idiotlamp Productions. Jamie Laurenson and Hakan Kousetta of 60Forty and Kris Thykier will executive produce with Elba, Kay, and Smith.
Elba rose to prominence in the United States because to his appearance in HBO’s The Wire. His other credits include voice work in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Netflix’s The Harder They Fall and Turn Up Charlie, and the BBC’s Luther, which will be adapted into a feature picture. The Artists Partnership, WME, M88, The Lede Company, and JSSK are his agents.
