The IT company caught the attention of the filmmaker of documentaries on Scientology, Wikileaks, and Enron.

Elon Musk biopic Musk, directed by Alex Gibney, has appeared at HBO Documentary Films in North America.
The controversial and newsworthy CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter has been the subject of a “definitive and unvarnished examination” called Musk. When the documentary’s announcement first happened, Musk tweeted, “It’s a hit piece.” Gibney, who won an Oscar for the 2008 film Taxi to the Dark Side, has produced films on contentious subjects including Scientology, Wikileaks, and Enron.
Together with funding from Double Agent, Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, Closer Media, and Anonymous Content produced the film.
The long-standing partnership between HBO and Gibney has produced movies addressing the drug problem. The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, The Crime of the Century, and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief are three documentaries by Elisabeth Homes.
Gibney, Jessie Deeter, and Erin Edeiken for Jigsaw, along with executive producer Richard Perello, are included in Musk’s lengthy list of producers. Producing for Closer Media are Joey Marra and Zhang Xin, with William Horberg serving as executive producer. Nick Shumaker and Jessica Grimshaw of Anonymous Content produce, and David Levine serves as executive producer. Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, John Friedberg, Yariv Milchan, and Michael Schaefer serve as executive producers for Double Agent’s productions, which are headed by Dana O’Keefe.
Out of the Cannes market, Black Bear will handle the foreign sales rights. Together with UTA’s Independent Film Group, AC Independent, and Double Agent, a contract with HBO was reached.
