I had nothing to expect when Hawkeye was revealed at SDCC 2019. Although I’m a big fan of the Matt Fraction and David Aja run, I was not interested in the project. Honestly, the trailer was definitely interesting; moreover; after watching the first two episodes, I would say that this project has been considered the biggest surprise of the year. I was not looking forward to this project as I did before. New characters are introduced in the first two episodes of Hawkeye and a mystery that needs solving is also set up, while maintaining the oddities and special marks that turn the Marvel Cinematic Universe into success.

First of all, let’s talk about the biggest problem. From time to time, this project is seen as a copy of the popular Matt Fraction and David Aja Hawkeye run. Although that sounds like a minus point, it benefits the show, I think. In this show, Fraction serves as a consultant and nobody can deny his influence. Many aspects of the run are combined very well and are smooth and natural to me. Because Matt Fraction and David Aja’s run is one of the most favorite comic runs in the 21st century, fans would definitely be happy when it is adapted to live-action. The Tracksuit Mafia and Lucky the Pizza Dog are something that makes me excited and I expect to see whether they will combine any other characters in the next four episodes.

Hawkeye/Clint Barton is again played by Jeremy Renner who does a great job. Clint Barton is depicted in a more fatherly way because it is described in the end that he tries to be a good father to his kids. I suppose that audiences will enjoy his performance and the practical point that he is not the star of the project. To be honest, the most standout performance for me was Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. Kate Bishop is brought with charm and wit thanks to Steinfeld’s performance and that is something readers were excited when she was first introduced in 2006. She expresses Kate’s character in a perfect way and she obviously becomes the standout of the project. I think she is going to receive fans’ love as a new hero for the next generation of the MCU. Steinfeld is a perfect cast choice and I believe she will gain success in the MCU for the next few years.

In general, the story is still the most impressive part for me. It talks about Kate Bishop who discovers many secrets about her life and family that eventually entwines with Clint, who is living in NYC with his kids. This is the center of the project; additionally; even if we just see the first two episodes, it is obvious that there is someone bigger controlling these events. We will finally find out who it is and the story will completely get high.

I could say that I loved Hawkeye. It blew my mind away with how much I loved it. The characters, the story, the action, the acting, and of course, the Christmas background all contribute to completing an intriguing MCU adventure. This project is successful and I really expect to see Steinfeld as Kate Bishop since she absolutely has one of the best performances in the MCU in years. Because of these reasons above, I give a 9/10 to the first two episodes of Hawkeye.
