James Gunn clarified a few things about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 soundtrack.

James Gunn will finally release his eagerly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to theaters next summer after a few years of tumultuous production. The movie will once again include one of the most recognizable features of the first two movies: music from Star-Lord’s playlist. This film will wrap up the tale of this incarnation of the team.
When Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came to a close, Kraglin (Sean Gunn) gave Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) a Zune, which included a lot more music than his Sony Walkman and mix tapes had. Vol. 3’s soundtrack will consist of music from the Zune, and James Gunn provided some information on what to anticipate in the story by tweeting the following in response to a fan:
Retro tunes from the 1970s including “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens and “The Rubberband Man” by The Spinners were included on Star-Lord’s Zune. And the special teaser that was displayed at San Diego Comic-Con in July used The Flaming Lips’ 2002 song “Do You Realize??.” Given that Peter Quill’s mother didn’t choose the music for this Zune, James Gunn’s concept for the Vol. 3 soundtrack is probably going to be a departure from what fans are used to.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 by James Gunn will hit cinemas on May 5, 2023.
