Disney announced that a documentary on the legendary artist Elton John would be available on their Disney+ streaming service and in select theaters.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and The Years That Made His Legend hail from R.J. Cutler, who was nominated for an Academy Award, and filmmaker David Furnish. It is intended to serve as the official feature-length documentary on the legendary musician and is comprised of unseen concert footage of him over the past 50 years, as well as clips of hand-written journals and current footage of him and his family.
The last few months of John’s life on the road are the primary focus of the documentary, which builds up to John’s last performance in North America, which will take place at Dodger Stadium in November 2022. According to a report on the documentary, Disney has also obtained the rights to record that last performance; however, it is not quite clear if they want to live stream it or whether they will merely shoot it for the sake of making a documentary and airing it.
According to the announcement of the film, Disney said that the plan for the documentary is to first have a run at festivals and then have a limited theatrical distribution before eventually having its premiere and being made available to watch exclusively on Disney+.
