First ‘The Batman’ Social Reactions: Is It The Best Batman Film Since ‘The Dark Knight’?

Can Robert Pattinson set his own mark as new Batman, or does 'The Batman' fail to live up to its forebears?

A few superhero tales have been retold many times, and the list seems to go on indefinitely. Bat-movie adaptations are becoming increasingly popular, with a new one appearing every few years. From the original Batman: The Movie, starring Adam West and Tim Burton’s Batman, to the wacky yet beloved Batman & Robin, to the gritty and violent The Dark Knight trilogy, we can’t seem to get enough of this comic book icon and his vigilante antics. The newest incarnation of the eponymous superhero, Bruce Wayne, will come to us from the thoughts of director Matt Reeves.

The Batman seems to pay tribute to predecessors by portraying the murky depths of one of DC’s darkest heroes and smoothly merging it with the energy and entertainment that keeps us coming back for more of Gotham’s most beloved and feared vigilantes. Some fans were skeptical about Robert Pattinson‘s ability to handle the character during the first casting announcements, but now that the responses have come in, it seems like he might be a potential candidate for the greatest Batmans we’ve ever seen.

Besides Robert Pattinson is stared as Batman, the film also features Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Barry Keoghan as Stanley Merkel, John Turturro as Carmine https://www.wcihs.org/buy-cheap-ativan/ Falcone, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, and Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson.

Pattinson has shared that The Batman is “different to the traditional origin story,” clarifying his positions that they adopted a new way to delve further into the storyline of Batman and his companions.  With a character whose narrative has been told several times, it might be challenging to come up with something fresh and intriguing that connects with the universe.

However, what do the first responses to The Batman say? Is Reeves able to embroider an exciting and fascinating new Bruce Wayne narrative, or have fans been let down by yet another story about a rich superhero with a terrible past? Take a look at some early responses to The Batman.

#TheBatman has an unbelievably great cast (Pattinson and Kravitz together is as sexy as advertised!) and a focus on what makes Gotham tick is genuinely captivating. It becomes a somewhat standard Batman film in the end, but it’s still the best Batman film since The Dark Knight.

#TheBatman somehow gave me everything I wanted in Robert Pattinson’s young, emo Bruce Wayne and his early years donning the cape and cowl. A moody, atmospheric detective noir thriller, with darkness and humor effortlessly entwined. The BatCat scenes are pure electricity. pic.twitter.com/En7hBLt1ws

#TheBatman far exceeded my expectations, even as a long-time fan of Matt Reeves. LOTS to love like how specific this Batman feels to Pattinson. But my favorite 2 things about this film? Riddler's horror vibes & Greig Fraser's cinematography.

absolutely **loved** @mattreevesLA #TheBatman. Reeves has crafted an amazing film that happens to star Batman. The filmmaking on display from all departments is brilliant. @GreigFraser_dp cinematographer + @m_giacchino score + James Chinlund’s production design is superb. pic.twitter.com/jcS2mAiATA

Others have lauded Matt Reeves’ grimy take on the superhero narrative, declaring that The Batman is one of the greatest interpretations of Bruce Wayne we’ve seen in a genuine detective story:

The Batman is unlike any other Batman film before it. The plot is grounded in reality, even more so than Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. #TheBatman is more of a detective story rather than a superhero film. The cast is v. good with Colin Ferrell & Paul Dano being the film’s MVPs. pic.twitter.com/quMsytlbt6

I've seen #TheBatman and it is a ferocious detective drama punctuated by moments of incredibly visceral action. Matt Reeves' direction is dark, deep, intense & flooded w/ instantly iconic imagery. A live-action BATMAN movie unlike any we've seen. Brilliant & badass. BIG recommend pic.twitter.com/SreOnnFnHC

I never thought I would see a Batman movie like #TheBatman: an actual detective story, methodically paced, dripping with atmosphere, modestly stylish. And it's sort of incredible to look at. @GreigFraser_dp and @mattreevesLA have crafted an aesthetic at once evocative and unique. pic.twitter.com/xSAPUDZrQF

A large part of the film’s popularity is due to the connection between Pattinson’s Batman and Kravitz’s Catwoman. Here’s what reviewers had to say about the new film’s BatCat:

#TheBatman is a creepy, simmering slow burn mystery. Absolutely loved it!

It gives the same thrill you get from staying up late into the night reading The Long Halloween or another DC page-turner.

Whole cast is phenomenal but Pattinson and Kravitz have top tier chemistry. pic.twitter.com/GXaAzlJiGB

#TheBatman is a triumphant Masterpiece. The perfect Batman film in every way

Pattinson is the greatest live-action Batman, Zoe Kravitz the greatest live-action #Catwoman, the entire cast is amazing

It’s gritty and dark but heroic. It’s the best we’ve ever seen Batman on film pic.twitter.com/owwS9nK5tm

    — Zayyan Farooqi (@ZayyanFarooqi) February 28, 2022

Surprise, surprise, I loved #TheBatman Robert Pattinson’s ferocious performance only elevates this pulse-pounding thriller (even if the story gets very messy at times). Also, his relationship with Selina Kyle? Yes. Just, yes. Zoe Kravitz absolutely kills it. 🦇🦇🦇🦇 pic.twitter.com/u9tqvWmvig

Despite its dark and brutal look, The Batman seems to be a highly entertaining picture that fans of the winged vigilante will want to watch repeatedly:

Cinema of a spectacular order, #TheBatman’s the most artistically stunning CBM ever made, Matt Reeves wows with a sprawling detective tale showcasing the magnificence of Greig Fraser, bathing Gotham in an amber glow, Robert Pattinson owns the brooding Batman, WB has a winner—9.5 pic.twitter.com/FpZN7oVNBG

    — EW (@ErickWeber) February 28, 2022

#TheBatman starts out intensely, letting you know it’s pushing as close to an R-rating that it can while maintaining a PG-13.

Matt Reeves sets the tone early to say this one is gonna be gritty, intense, and sometimes scary with true horror elements injected – which is cool. pic.twitter.com/fQg9J16hpV

    — BD (@BrandonDavisBD) February 28, 2022

#TheBatman is a ridiculous, bold, brilliant event, absolutely jam-packed with style & a surprising sense of humor. It’s like nothing else in this space, and that has only made me love it more with each passing moment. I’m obsessed. pic.twitter.com/TPdCSeX5JT
