It is reported that Warner Bros’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore has earned $20.1 million on Friday, and until today, it is on track for a mediocre domestic debut of $40-$45 million.
The $200 million film, which is the third entry in J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter spinoff franchise, lags well behind its predecessors in terms of box office receipts. Franchises are becoming increasingly crucial to Hollywood studios, but it’s unclear if this one will be able to continue.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them grossed $74.4 million in its domestic debut in 2016. The sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, racked up less than that, at $62.2 million. It wasn’t much of a difference between Dumbledore’s Thursday preview earnings and the first two.
