The film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald established Albus’ sexuality as canon.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is officially in theaters, and while the sequel isn’t doing particularly well at the box office, it does contain one key component that has people talking. Albus Dumbledore‘s sexuality was ultimately established and made official in the third Harry Potter spin-off film. SPOILERS AHEAD!
J.K. Rowling sparked outrage among Harry Potter enthusiasts when she said in 2007 that she “always thought of Dumbledore as gay.” The sexuality of the Hogwarts headmaster, on the other hand, is something the author appeared ready to discuss but never actually represented in her writings.

That has altered now that Dumbledore‘s past has been revealed in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
A scene early in Fantastic Beasts 3 depicts Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald meeting. Dumbledore opposes Grindelwald’s intention to exterminate all Muggles, and the two have a disagreement. “I went along because I was in love with you,” Dumbledore says when Grindelwald wonders why he’s changed his mind.
Dumbledore confirms his feelings for Grindelwald on several occasions. He informs other characters later in the film that he was in love with Grindelwald when they were both youths, even going so far as to allude to their deep romantic relationship.
Dumbledore‘s sexuality is no longer a mystery. It is, however, the first time it has been made canon in the Harry Potter universe (excluding Rowling’s tweets).
