While fans have been anticipating the appearance of The Illuminati in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness since the film’s first teaser debuted, a new TV promo confirms their presence in the film.
The Illuminati were a secret group formed by Tony Stark in Marvel’s comic continuity that initially featured members such as Doctor Strange and Professor X. Their mission was to share their unique intel and ideas in order to discuss and avert hazards to the planet. While it appears likely that the MCU’s Illuminati will set significantly apart from their comic-book counterparts, the presence of Patrick Stewart‘s Professor X in a shadowy council in the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness immediately sparked fan theories about the group’s inclusion in the film.
A new TV promo for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness officially refers to The Illuminati by name and seems to confirm Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo’s involvement with the organization, but whether Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s Baron Mordo is a fully-fledged member remains been kept in the dark. Mordo declares, “Stephen Strange, the Illuminati will see you now,” as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is pushed through a doorway by Ultron drones to confront the hidden society. A fresh look at Elizabeth Olsen‘s Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange’s frightening zombified variation are also seen in the commercial, as with America Chavez‘s characteristic star-shaped portals, which enable transit between other universes.
