On the heels of David Cronenberg‘s Crimes Of The Future being confirmed for this year’s Cannes Film Festival lineup, Neon has published a wild-looking first trailer.
Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart feature in the film, which bears the same name as the director’s 1970 film but is not a remake. The plot takes place in the not-too-distant future, when humans have discovered how to change their biological composition — some spontaneously, some medically.
In avant-garde performances, celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Mortensen) and his companion Caprice (Seydoux) reveal the metamorphosis of his organs. Timlin (Stewart), a National Organ Registry investigator, follows their every step, uncovering a mystery society whose purpose is to exploit Saul’s celebrity to shed light on the next stage of human evolution.
Following its Cannes debut in May, the film will be released in June.
