Chris Evans will appear in a holiday action comedy as one of his next roles. According to Deadline, the former Captain America will star with Dwayne Johnson in Amazon Studios’ forthcoming feature Red One, which he also produces through his Seven Bucks Productions business.
The film is an original story by Hiram Garcia, Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production, who will also be a producer for the film. It is classified as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action thriller, inventing a whole new world to discover within the festive genre. “[Red One] was something I had been thinking about for about seven, eight years,” Garcia previously informed Collider. “During that period of time when we were all shut down and we were working from home… I’m not often home. I’m very fortunate that with our work schedule I tend to be on the road a lot. I actually found myself with a window and wanted to really take advantage of something…It worked out pretty well.” The tone of the picture, according to Garcia, is more akin to Hobbs & Shaw or Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy than typical holiday films.
Jake Kasdan, who formerly collaborated with Johnson on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and its 2019 sequel Jumanji: The Next Level, will direct and produce Red One. Chris Morgan, who also collaborated with Johnson on Hobbs & Shaw, wrote the screenplay and produced the picture via his Chris Morgan Productions company. Melvin Mar and Dany Garcia will also produce the film.

However, Red One isn’t Evans’ only upcoming endeavor. He’ll also voice Buzz Lightyear in Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story spin-off Lightyear and feature in the Netflix thriller The Gray Man, produced by fellow Marvel alums Anthony and Joe Russo. In addition, the former Marvel actor has agreed to play Gene Kelly in an unnamed film from director John Logan.
The release date for Red One is set for the Christmas season of 2023. Filming is scheduled to start later this year.
