Thor: Love and Thunder, Marvel’s newest highly-anticipated superhero film, has got off the ground in the North American box office run with a whopping $29 million in previews.

The film is also making a splash internationally, where it debuted midweek and racked up $48,6 million in its first 42 markets as of Friday.
The next film from Disney and Marvel marks the fourth installment in the Thor stand-alone series. It is also a direct sequel to the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok, both of which were helmed by the maverick filmmaker Taika Waititi. Additionally, It’s the 29th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe empire of titles.
The film reunites Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, as well as introduces Christian Bale as a newbie to the cast. Besides Waititi, Jaimie Alexander, Tessa Thompson, and Russell Crowe are also on board.
The tracking indicates that the superhero movie will record the third- or second-best opening of the pandemic era with $150 million or more in domestic revenue and maybe north of $300 million internationally. Spider-Man: No Way Home had a domestic opening weekend of $260 million in December, bringing in a total of $50 million from previews (In recent days, the Sony and Marvel picture passed the $1.9 billion mark internationally). In addition, earlier this year, the previews for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brought in a total of $36 million, putting the film on track for a nationwide opening weekend of $187.4 million.
It is anticipated that Thor: Love and Thunder will add to the uptick in summer box office revenue.
