The sequel to Oscar-winning Bong Joon Ho’s film Parasite is now in pre-production at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden.
Robert Pattinson, a buzzy rising star with his recent role in The Batman, is slated to feature in the anticipated sci-fi picture, production of which will kick off this summer.
As announced last week, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie will be all on board.
The untitled flick is inspired by Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey7. As part of the latter’s overall deal with Warner Bros., Bong serves as writer, director, and producer for his production firm Offscreen with Kate Street Picture Company’s Dooho Choi and Jeremy Kleiner and Plan B’s Dede Gardner.
The project reunites Bong and Choi with Brad Pitt’s Plan B, with whom they previously worked on the 2017 film Okja.
The February-released novel revolves around Mickey7, a disposable laborer on a human mission that is intended to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. When a task is deemed excessively risky, or even suicidal, the team goes to Mickey. When one iteration of him passes away, a brand-new body with most of his memories still intact is recreated. After six deaths, Mickey7 knows the conditions of his deal, as well as the reason why it was the only colonial position that was vacant when he got it.
This is Bong Joon-Ho’s first project since Parasite swept the Oscars and broke international box office records. He is also developing a Parasite series for HBO.
