In the first scene of the trailer, Tess (Campbell) arrives to her Airbnb in a suburban area on a wet night without knowing how to enter the home. The young lady knocks on the door and a man called Keith (Skarsgård) replies, telling her that he is now renting the house despite though she had reportedly reserved it a month before. With an old-fashioned romantic tune playing when Tess chooses to stay in the house with Keith, it appears as though this may possibly be a meet-cute that launches a romantic comedy. Until Campbell’s character wakes up in the middle of the night to odd footsteps and Keith is nowhere to be found.
Tess quickly makes the decision to investigate the house’s basement, where she discovers a weird back door that requires a rope to open. As the film progresses, Tess discovers other people—together with Keith—trapped in a kind of underground jail in the basement. Towards the end of the trailer, a creepy voice-over starts with a robotic female voice saying, “This procedure could appear overwhelming.”
