Both blockbusters were directed by James Cameron.

With $2.243 billion in worldwide ticket sales, Avatar: The Way of Water has officially surpassed Titanic to claim the third-place spot among all films, unadjusted for inflation.
Three of the top four highest-grossing films in history were directed by James Cameron, who also produced both movies.
Before to a global 3D rerelease earlier this month, Titanic had earned $2.194 billion in international ticket sales. Now, it has $2.242 billion.
According to Comscore, the highest film of all time is James Cameron’s original Avatar ($2.92 billion), followed by the Russo brothers’ Avengers: Endgame ($2.79 billion).
With a domestic total of $657 million, Avatar 2 is now ranked No. 9 all-time, trailing only Titanic ($672.2 million) in North America. The Way of Water has made an enormous $1.586 billion overseas, which places it behind Avatar and Endgame as the third-best worldwide box office performance ever.
The original Avatar, which was released in 2009, and Marvel’s Endgame are predicted to outperform The Way of Water.
Avatar: The Way of Water and Titanic, a 1997 film, faced off in an unusual competition spanning Valentine’s Day weekend and the Super Bowl. Avatar 2 has been outperforming Titanic, but the 1997 movie has been holding up quite well.
