Wednesday saw the international premiere of James Cameron‘s well-known sequel in a few significant nations. It has earned $15.8 million thus far from 15 reporting markets.

Korea led all international markets, selling $3.3 million worth of tickets. France came in second with $2.9 million. The film debuted at the top of the box office in every market throughout Europe, including Italy and Sweden, with 71% of revenue coming from 3D and other premium formats.
In addition to the 15 mentioned areas, the movie is now in previews in a number of other regions, including Latin America. Since they are still previews, those data are not yet part of the $15.8 million worldwide total gross so far. A total of $4.4 million was made in Latin America as a whole, with gross receipts of $1.5 million in Mexico and $1.0 million in Brazil. 3D and other premium formats accounted for 55% of total income. Australian previews cost $1.3 million and were not counted in the overall total in other countries. Avatar 2 had 1,688 preview screenings in China on Wednesday before its Friday release, generating $2.6 million in ticket sales.
The Way of Water will be showing by Friday in more than 4,100 cinemas in North America and tens of thousands of other locations. Through Sunday, it is anticipated that the 20th Century/Disney film would earn a domestic debut of $150 million to $175 million and a worldwide debut of $450 million to $550 million.
The original Avatar became the highest-grossing movie of all time, a record it still maintains with more than $2.92 billion in worldwide ticket sales, without accounting for inflation. The Way of Water, which cost between $350 million and $400 million to develop before marketing, debuts 13 years after that.
The Way of Water was created by Cameron and Jon Landau, his longtime Lightstorm collaborator. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang all appear in the film, which again revolves around Sully (played by Worthington) and Neytiri (played by Saldaña), a Na’vi character. Following their family, it starts up ten years after the first film and features newcomer to the franchise Kate Winslet among its other actors.
