Sigourney Weaver has previously confirmed that she will return in Avatar: The Way of Water. Weaver has stated multiple times that she would not be resuming her role as Dr. Grace Augustine. So what role does Weaver play in Avatar 2? She just revealed a new character, and her first picture and details hint that she is linked to Jake and Neytiri.
Empire released two new pictures of Sigourney Weaver‘s character Kiri along with the new information. It’s interesting to note that one of the stills really has Kiri next to a clip of Dr. Grace Augustine before the transfer of her mind to her Na’vi avatar.
The source further affirms that Kiri is a young Na’vi who also happens to be Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive adolescent daughter. We don’t know how it all works out, but given that Grace’s spirit had ascended to the Tree of Souls, it’s possible that she had previously lived as a Na’vi infant.
It’s interesting to note that Sigourney Weaver was pleased to play a fresh character in the James Cameron film, especially in a role of a young girl.
The new character has us genuinely thrilled, and we can’t wait to meet Kiri later this year.
The debut of Avatar: The Way of Water is scheduled for December 16, 2022.
