A new picture from the highly awaited sequel Avatar: The Way of the Water, featuring Stephen Lang‘s Miles Quaritch as an Avatar, was published today.

The new image depicts Lang’s Quaritch staring out over what appears to be a research facility, with human coworkers encircling and working around him. While fans have known for a while that Quaritch will return in the sequel, seeing him in the body of a Na’vi comes as a bit of a surprise considering his attitude against the extraterrestrial species in the first film.
When viewers last encountered Lang in the first Avatar, it appeared that the movie’s major adversary had perished in a conflict on the Tree of Souls. However, it appears as though we already know how Lang’s Quaritch will return in The Way of the Water.
After a few delays, the release date for Avatar: The Way of the Water is officially set for December 16, 2022. The release dates of Avatar 3, Avatar 4, and Avatar 5 are tentatively set for December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028, respectively.
