Following its global debut at the Cannes Film Festival, Warner Bros. released a new clip from their musical drama Elvis about the rock and roll hero of the same name, which will be released in the United States on June 24.
The film, directed by Oscar nominee Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby), promises to look at Elvis Presley‘s (Austin Butler) life and music through the lens of his tumultuous relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). It will follow their relationship over the period of 20 years, from Presley‘s ascension to superstardom.
Parker watches as Elvis tunes off trolls advising him to “get a haircut” and wails on a guitar on stage, eliciting shouts from throngs of adoring fans, in a recently released clip from the film. Elvis‘ transformation from a “thin boy” to a full-fledged musical “superhero,” in his opinion, occurred at this point.
Helen Thomson, Richard Roxburgh, Olivia DeJonge, Luke Bracey, Natasha Bassett, David Wenham, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Xavier Samuel, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and others feature alongside Elvis Presley. The script was written by Luhrmann, Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner, and was based on a narrative by Luhrmann and Doner. Along with Catherine Martin, Gail Berman, Patrick McCormick, and Schuyler Weiss, Luhrmann produced the film.
Elvis will compete with Cohen Media Group’s Apples, IFC Films’ Flux Gourmet, Universal Pictures’ horror feature The Black Phone starring Ethan Hawke, Big World Pictures’ drama A Man of Integrity, and Faith Media Distribution’s thriller Wayward in theaters on November 24th.
