The backlash against Amber Heard by Aquaman fans is on the rise amid the very public trial involving her and her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. In light of Amber Heard being pushed to be removed from her Mera role in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” a new concept design that imagines Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke in the role has been come up with.
Amber Heard was first cast in the role of Mera for the 2017 film Justice League, and then reprised the role in James Wan‘s 2018 film Aquaman. Despite the film’s critical acclaim, many fans questioned if DC would replace Heard’s role in the sequel, considering her continuing legal issues and claims of abuse leveled against her by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. The answer is supposed to be yes. A resurgence of interest in the subject has occurred lately since the former marriage is now involved in a protracted, highly publicized defamation litigation with charges of abuse on both sides.

In light of the claims revealed in the trial, lots of fans have petitioned for Amber Heard to be weeded out from the Aquaman sequel. While it is doubtful that she would be removed at this point in the late stage, the topic has sparked various suggestions from fans about who DC should cast in the role of Mera. And Emilia Clarke is a prominent suggestion.
Emilia Clarke is a perfect fit to land the role of Mera, the Atlantean princess and love interest of Aquaman. Not only is she an incredibly talented actress with prior experience working on mega franchises – in addition to Game of Thrones, she appeared in the Star Wars spinoff Solo – but her character, Daenerys Targaryen, was the bride of Khal Drogo, played by Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, in the first few seasons of Game of Thrones. Check out the concept design below, created by artist “diamonddead,” which depicts what Clarke may look like in the role of Mera:

Mera will next be seen in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. Currently, no official plans to recast Mera have been reported. However, if DC ever reconsiders Amber Heard‘s casting in the role, Emilia Clarke would be a strong candidate for the part. It’s feasible that characters like Mera might be recast in the DCEU since The Flash is slated to shake up the DCEU next year.
