Andor’s Early Responses Indicate a New Direction for ‘Star Wars’

Before the Star Wars television series’ three-episode premiere next week, the first social media responses to Andor have appeared online.

The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, two new Star Wars series from Lucasfilm, were both released this year. Both have gotten mixed reviews from fans and critics, but Lucasfilm hopes that their upcoming series will change that. Early responses to Andor give fans a preview of what to expect.

While others at a launch event viewed the first three episodes of Andor, critics only saw the first four. According to the initial responses on Andor social media, it will be significantly more mature than previous Star Wars episodes, start out a little slowly, and rely less on Easter eggs. Below are a few social media reactions to Andor‘s first few episodes taken from Twitter.

#Andor is a slow burn, but gets better with each episode. It's a far more mature direction for #StarWars and very different from the other Disney Plus shows we have gotten so far, which is a good thing! (1/2) pic.twitter.com/hoLnURYivw

Have seen the first 4 episodes of #andor and LOVE them. I’m so tired of watching the same #starwars characters and locations and ‘Andor’ is none of that. No Jedi. No lightsabers. No Tatooine. Tony Gilroy is leading what might end up as my favorite ‘Star Wars’ series. pic.twitter.com/wfubmYoBkP

Now that the #Andor social embargo IS lifted, I can say that it's easily the most cinematic of the Star Wars shows so far. The first three episodes should've been presented as one 90-minute episode. The breaks between are very random – but it's a great episode!

#Andor is NOT what I expected. It's a mix of STAR WARS UNDERWORLD and LORD OF THE FLIES, an odd pairing that works. Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw and Stellan Skarsgård give standout performances. It's action-packed, yet a slow burn and I can't wait to see how it ends. pic.twitter.com/SVqfnhnfvq

I've watched 4 episodes of #Andor & I'm loving its more simple ground-level approach. It's different from the other shows, less humor. Plays like a crime drama more than a space opera. I dug how it highlights low-level Empire leaders as it reveals a rebel alliance slowly forming pic.twitter.com/SNsBIDrhbq

I've seen 4 episodes of #Andor and it's very different from the rest of modern Star Wars, for better & worse.

The first 2 episodes didn't grab me: Too matter of fact, too low stakes. But 3-4 paid them off incredibly well. Now, I'm all in, but it takes time to sink in its hooks. pic.twitter.com/TxrB243kmN

Diego Luna, Stellan Skarsgård, and Fiona Shaw star in the series. Other cast members of the movie Andor includes Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, and Genevieve O’Reilly. The episodes of the Star Wars television series were directed by Toby Haynes, Susanna White, and Benjamin Caron, and were written by Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon.

Andor will make its Disney Plus premiere on September 21, 2022, with three episodes.
