Hulu released the first teaser for The Dropout, a special limited series starring Amanda Seyfried, on their official YouTube channel. The show is the latest in a succession of frightening true stories that the streaming service has opted to convey, including Dopesick, Pam & Tommy, and the forthcoming Immigrant. The Dropout follows Elizabeth Holmes, a biotech lover who alleged to have improved lab tests and became a self-made millionaire as a result — only to be accused of criminal fraud immediately afterward
The Dropout‘s trailer shows that the plot would begin like most inspiring biopics do: with a young person who started with the invention being dismissed, questioned, and smacked down by their peers, and informed that it is “impossible” to achieve. The biographical cliches, on the other hand, are spun on their heads in this movie as it becomes evident that Holmes (Seyfried) was in much over her head and began to break health ethics and safety precautions when she learned there was a lot of money flowing in. Maybe it was because she mentioned Yoda that they believed her?
Simultaneously, The Dropout is preparing to convey an unfinished tale, given that Holmes has yet to be imprisoned in reality, and her trial is set for later this year – in late September, far after the series’ premiere in early March. However, Holmes’ narrative is so intriguing that it has previously been documented in author John Carreyrou’s book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup, as well as the HBO documentary The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley.

Naveen Andrews, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Kate Burton, Michel Gill, Lisa Gay Hamilton, William H. Macy, Elizabeth Marvel, Laurie Metcalf, Dylan Minnette, Alan Ruck, Sam Waterston, Michaela Watkins, and Stephen Fry are among the cast members of The Dropout.
Elizabeth Meriwether, the creator and writer of New Girl and Single Parents, was chosen as the showrunner for The Dropout. Michael Showalter, who also directed many episodes, co-produces the new series with her. Showalter has directed episodes of Search Party, Grace & Frankie, and Love on television. He also directed The Big Sick, a surprise blockbuster rom-com, and The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
On March 3rd, Hulu will release the first three episodes of The Dropout. Following that, the remaining episodes will be released on the platform on a weekly basis.
