The popular film about Nike’s game-changing early years is directed by Affleck. Alongside Damon and Viola Davis, who plays Michael Jordan’s mother, he also has a significant role.

The forthcoming film on Nike’s game-changing early years, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, has been given its first trailer to moviegoers.
In preparation for a Super Bowl commercial for the Casey Affleck-directed movie AIR, which is from Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, and Mandalay Pictures, a trailer was released on Thursday.
Damon portrays Sonny Vaccaro, the unconventional Nike salesperson who recruited Michael Jordan to a shoe deal in the middle of the 1980s, sparking the growth of the multibillion-dollar modern sneaker business.
Affleck portrays Phil Knight, a co-founder of Nike, while Viola Davis plays Deloris Jordan, a key figure in the negotiations on her son’s behalf.
Horst Dassler is played by Gustaf Skarsgrd, James Jordan by Julius Tennon, George Raveling by Marlon Wayans, Howard White by Chris Tucker, Peter Moore by Matthew Maher, and Rob Strasser by Jason Bateman round out the supporting cast.
Last month, Amazon and Affleck revealed that AIR will have a conventional theatrical release all around the world before making its Prime Video premiere at a later, as-yet-unannounced time (its streaming release date will, at least in part, be determined by how well it does at the box office). A streamer must take a big step to make such a release.
The first film from Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity, AIR, also marks Matt Damon’s first time acting in an Affleck-directed movie.
